Women’s lacrosse prepares for MAAC Tournament
The Canisius College women’s lacrosse team is gearing up for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament which will at the Demske Sports Complex this weekend. The team enters the tournament second in the conference and will play third-place Marist at 8.

Freshman leads Griffs to Senior Day victory
With less than three minutes to play, Canisius freshman Tim Edwards stepped into the circle for the biggest faceoff of his young career. VMI had just cut the Canisius lead to one goal, and the Griffs needed a win to have a shot at the postseason. Oosting breaks scoring record
Senior Megan Oosting came up big in another electrifying senior night performance at the Demske Sports Complex – just as she has for her entire Canisius career. Not only did Oosting’s five-goal performance play a pivotal role in a 21-3 victory over rival Niagara, she also broke the Canisius record for career goals at 141.

Conacher named AHL MVP
Cory Conacher’s first professional season has been nothing short of spectacular. Leading the first-place Norfolk Admirals in goals and points, Conacher couldn’t have asked for a better start to his aspirations of being an NHL regular. Now that the American Hockey League’s regular season has ended, the former Canisius forward is being formally recognized for his achievements by players, coaches and media.

Siena hands men’s lacrosse fourth-straight loss
Men’s lacrosse fell 14-2 at Siena on Saturday, suffering its worst conference loss since 2001 and dropping to 2-7 on the season and 1-3 in the MAAC. Siena took an early one-goal lead, but a Travis Gibbons man-up goal tied the score early in the first.

Golf shows improvement in Detroit Invitational
Junior Mike spiotta placed 10th over- all and the Canisius College golf team placed eighth in the Detroit Invitational last friday and saturday in Highland, Mich. at the Prest- wick Village Golf Club. spiotta shot a one-under par 71 in the second round and finished with a three-round total of 219.

Softball earns split decision against Bonnies
sophomore Jen Consaul had yet another strong performance on the mound and reigning MaaC Rookie of the Week Robin Kennery tallied five hits as the Griffs went on to split a road double-header against st. Bonaventure on tuesday in olean, N.Y. The split-decision brought the Griffs overall re- cord to 11-26 on the season, while the Bonnies moved to 15-17.

Griffs win two of three
sophomore Garrett Cortright pitched seven in- nings and allowed two runs in Canisius’ victory in the first game of this past weekend’s series against saint Peter’s. Canisius won 6-3. In Game one of sat- urday’s double-header, after Cortright’s strong performance, the Griffs turned the ball over to junior Jason Rubenstein, who pitched one inning and allowed one run.

Baron leads Griffs in new direction
A brand-new era of men’s basketball began at Canisius College Tuesday afternoon, when Jim Baron was introduced at the Koessler Athletic Center as the 23rd head coach in the program's century-old history. "I want to thank Canisius College and especially president John Hurley and Athletic Director Bill Maher, who have given me the opportunity to coach again, being at an excellent school like Canisius with a great reputation and tradition for development of student-athletes and with a very good Jesuit legacy," Baron said after approaching the podium to a strong ovation.

Men’s lacrosse drops two
Senior Simon Giourmetakis had 10 points – seven goals and three assists – for the men’s lacrosse team last week at Binghamton and Jacksonville while Canisius lost both games. At Binghamton, Giourmetakis scored four goals and had one assist in an 11-7 loss and at Jacksonville he scored three goals with two assists in a 9-8 loss.
